All Welcome

Child Minding
Please let your child’s Homeroom teacher know if you are coming
Everyone knows that reading is an important life skill. As every child learns in their own way and at their own speed, becoming a confident reader can be a very personal journey for your child. Learning to read does not happen all at once, it involves a succession of stages that can lead, over time, to independent reading and to fluency.
While at school your child will be practicing letters, letter sounds, sight words, as well as guided reading sessions in small groups. You may not have heard of all or some of these practices before, but as they are something your child will be taking part in you would like to know more?
Mr John, Year 1 Pardalotes teacher and Jolly Phonics extraordinaire, and myself, Ms. Karen, K2 Potoroos teacher, are holding a Parent Presentation on Friday August 24th at 2.30pm.
During the presentation we will discuss stages involved in learning to read, what we do in school and how you can help your child as they move through each stage, what guided reading is and information on the PM reading programme. We will cover the importance of phonological awareness, tools that can help children develop reading skills, explain why reading aloud is so important, as well as how vocabulary and comprehension are essential in helping students become confident and fluent readers.
We look forward to seeing you on Friday.
Open a book
And you can share,
Wondrous words you find in there.
Open a book
And I will too
You read to me,
And I’ll read to you.
