October 2016 Issue 28

" In this time of sad reflection following the recent passing of His Majesty The King we would like to start this month’s eAdvance by paying tribute to His Majesty’s significant achievements. Recognised internationally for his significant contribution to the development of his country, King Bhumibol implemented over 4000 royal projects during his 70 year reign. A major figure in modern history King Bhumibol was widely revered and will be forever remembered for his dedication to the welfare and happiness of the people of Thailand.

As a show of respect for the passing of His Majesty The King, the AustCham Board has taken the decision not to host social events during the 30 day mourning period and in this month’s eAdvance we have included information on observance of the mourning period "

Chamber Updates

Office Move

After reviewing anticipated costs, the Board has decided not to move the Chamber Office this year. The lease on the existing Thai CC Building Office has been extended by a year and the Board will reassess the potential for an office move in 2017.

CSR

At the October Board meeting, the Board agreed on a list of charitable causes which will be circulated to the membership in the coming weeks with your feedback sought to determine the allocation of 2016 fundraising.

Updates from the AustCham Board of Directors

Last week, AustCham Board Member Alan Polivnick met with manufacturing members on the Eastern Seaboard to provide a presentation on Legal Obligations of Directors in Thailand. A well-attended meeting with frank discussion, this session is expected to feature as an annual briefing for members in both Bangkok and the Eastern Seaboard.

Recently, AustCham Board Member Peter Emblin also attended a lunch hosted by the Australian Ambassador for Khun Kalin Sarasin, Chairman of the Tourism Authority and member of the Board of Trade, along with Khun Jirapahant Asvanakul - Treasurer Board of Trade, Khun Piyabutr Cholvijarn - Vice Chairman Thai Chamber of Commerce and officials from the Australian Embassy. Conversation focused on moves made by the Government to open up the services sector and the continued development of the Thai Australian relationship.

Chamber Office Staff update

Khun Yata Srisung, our Membership and Communications Manager, has recently announced her engagement and will be moving to Germany with her new husband at the end of the year. I would like to recognise the tremendous contribution she has made to the Chamber Office since joining the team almost two years ago, bringing fresh ideas and a new approach to the role. She will be missed, but we wish her the best of luck.
