South Australia has a strong and historic connection with South East Asia. The region presents opportunities arising from its growing urban populations, rising income and increasingly modern infrastructure and industries.

South East Asia is undergoing significant economic, political, social and demographic change. It is a region of enormous economic potential – and South Australia is in the ideal location to capitalize on its increasing demand for world – class goods and services.

The South Australian Government has committed to close engagement with South East Asia, and in particular ASEAN member states.

Cooperation extends to security, culture, trade, education, people exchange and various forms of development activities. Free Trade Agreements between Australia and the Region are being systematically negotiated.

In 2015 the Government of South Australia launched the South Australia - South East Asia Engagement Strategy to support endeavors to increase the State’s profile and presence in the region.
