Unforgettable Nights with Cynthia Scott Live at The Living Room

Bangkok, April – The Living Room is excited to welcome a jazz legend to the stage.
From May 16 – June 10, jazz vocalist, Cynthia Scott, will perform at the intimate venue with the Randy Cannon Group.

For more than four decades, the vocal artistry of the multi-talented Arkansas-born vocalist,
Cynthia Scott, has encompassed the swing of jazz, the soul of blues, R&B, and the sacred stirrings of gospel music. Discovered by the late great Ray Charles, she is loved by audiences from New York to Africa, Europe and Asia, by musicians such as Wynton Marsalis, and revered by jazz critics. “I learned from Ray Charles to tell the story and do it your way, with all your roots included,” says Cynthia.

She started singing at the age of four, and was exposed to a wide variety of music. “I loved Carmen McCrae; I heard her story when she sang. Roberta Flack … I could sing her Chapter Two album straight through, note per note. Aretha Franklin always amazed me by the way you could really feel her. And then later there was Sarah VaughanElla Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday … talk about emotions on your sleeve.”

When Cynthia moved to Dallas after she graduated from high school in Arkansas, those influences formed into one soaring and syncopated voice that was all hers. Over the years, she honed her craft with some of the best musicians on the jazz scene. Cynthia’s big break came back in 1972 when she received a call at 5 a.m. from Ray Charles, asking her to be a Raelette – one of the select women chosen to be his back-up singers. Scott worked with the genius for two years, and also toured Europe with Oscar Peterson with Joe Pass and the Count Basie Orchestra with Joe Williams. “I felt like I knew Ray's spirit because when you work with someone as closely as I did with Ray, you learn so much,” she says.

In 2016, Cynthia was inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame, an honor that marks a lifetime of outstanding achievements and dedication to jazz.

At The Living Room, Cynthia will perform with the sensational Randy Cannon Group. Renowned for his power-packed performances, Randy’s mesmerizing piano playing is complemented by the outstanding drummer Willard Dyson, Thailand’s leading bass player, Therdsak Wongvichien.

Cynthia Scott and the Randy Cannon Group will perform Tuesday - Thursday from 21.15 hours onwards and every Friday and Saturday from 20.30 hours onwards.
