Unagi Eel to Melt in Your Mouth! At KiSara Japanese Restaurant

July at KiSara Japanese Restaurant will be a month for the delicious Unagi or Freshwater Eel, served on a tray of delightful selections that offer you the perfect moment to share this delectable experience with friends, family and colleagues.

Each year, the Day of Doyou no Ushi falls in the middle of July, which is the hottest time of the year in Japan. The tradition of eating tasty Unagi, or freshwater eel, on this day is recorded in the venerable "Manyōshū", the oldest existing collection of Japanese poetry, and was a popular practice during the Edo period (1603 to 1867). Unagi remains a popular dish in Japan particularly through the summer months as it is said to prevent bloating and is rich in vitamins A and B, and other healthy minerals.

The mild flavor of freshwater eel becomes bold and rich when grilled, with such a perfect combination of sweetness and saltiness that the Japanese say that even the rising smoke from grilled Unagi infused over a dish of rice makes a delicious meal!
