    Time For Thailand’s Classic Summer Treat at Smooth Curry, Plaza Athénée Bangkok, A Royal Méridien

     

    Bangkok 2017, Temperatures are rising. Cool off with khao chae, Thailand’s favourite seasonal royal Thai dish, at Smooth Curry at Plaza Athénée Bangkok, A Royal Méridien Hotel, one of Bangkok’s most acclaimed Thai restaurants.

    Khao chae – literally "rice soaked in water" – made its first appearance in the court of King Rama II as a means of relief during the hot season.  It was adapted from a simple Mon recipe into the complex, multi-dish treat of today. What with the elaborate processes involved in creating the side dishes, it’s best to have it prepared by a top chef such as Smooth Curry’s hot new talent, Chef Montri Jiratitikankit.

    New Authentic Thai Set Lunch Menus & Curry Buffet at basil




    Bangkok, March
    – The award-winning Thai restaurant, basil, at Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok, invites diners to discover its new lunchtime set menus of authentic Thai cuisine and a daily curry buffet. Served from Monday to Friday, it’s the perfect choice for dining with friends or for a business lunch.

    Each month, the set menus will focus on regional Thai cuisine from the Central plains, the North, Northeast or the South. In April, diners can explore the distinctive cuisine of Northern Thailand, while May will highlight classic dishes from the central region. Menus offer a choice of 3 or 4 courses with appetizers, soups, main dishes and desserts. Dishes from the North include yam gai sai hua plee – spicy chicken salad with banana blossom, and gaeng oam gai tok spicy and fragrant soup made with pheasant from the farm of the Royal Project, mushrooms, lemongrass and local herbs. From the Central plains, dishes include yam mamuang pla samlee rue poo nim tod spicy green mango salad with choice of crispy fried cotton fish or soft shell crab, tom yam gung – spicy prawn soup with lemongrass, galangal and kafir lime, and pla neung manao steamed seabass with garlic, chili and lime.

    The daily lunch curry buffet includes a choice of appetizers, a noodle bar dish, main curries, and desserts. Highlights include gaeng kiew wan nua, green curry with beef, eggplant and basil, gaeng karee moo, yellow curry with pork and potatoes, as well as sautéed mixed vegetables, and enticing desserts such as the traditional mango and sticky rice.

    The curry buffet is priced at 580++ Baht food only or 650++ Baht including one coffee or tea. Additional dishes are available as side orders, starting from 160++ Baht. basil’s à la carte menu is also available.

    The newly refurbished basil is an award-winning Thai restaurant with a fresh dining concept that highlights the incredible diversity, high quality ingredients, and authentic flavors of Thai cuisine from four distinct regions; the central plains, the north, northeast and the south.     The season comes but once a year and connoisseurs around the world await it eagerly. In the early spring, wild morel mushrooms appear briefly at the edges of Northern forests. Gourmets call them “jewels of the earth.”

    Red Sky restaurant combines morels with fresh, seasonal and local ingredients in unique dishes created by Chef Alan Wesley Kwan and his team. Menu highlights include
    Josper grilled lamb loin served with mint, morels and zucchini; asparagus with morel mushroom and Madeira cream sauce served with a soft poached egg; morel mushroom risotto served with Parmigiano foam; linguini pasta with leeks and morels served with aged fontina; and crispy rice-coated Alaskan halibut served with a ragout of morel mushrooms and potato puree.
