Associate Professor Chan-o-cha will speak about the Distance Learning Foundation and Educational Opportunity.

About the Speaker


Associate Professor Naraporn Chan-o-cha is retired Associate Professor of English at Chulalongkorn University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (English), and later was awarded a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics. She received her Teacher Education Certificate from Leeds University, UK.


Her prominent past appointments include Deputy Director for Administration and Planning at Chulalongkorn University Language Institute (2002-2006), committee member of the International Association of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (IATEFL) (1999-2005), President of Thailand Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (ThaiTESOL), an association under the Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana (2001-2003).


Associate Professor Naraporn currently holds many distinguished positions including Vice Chair of the Distance Learning Foundation, a Committee member of the Crown Property Bureau Foundation, Chairperson of the Supporting Committee of Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music, and Advisor to the Federation of Thai Language and Culture Teachers in Europe. 


She is passionate about education, human development, and social work. Her continuing interests and contributions include equal educational opportunities, lifelong learning, teacher development, professional development, and social work for the elderly and people with disabilities. As Vice Chair of the Distance Learning Foundation, Associate Professor Naraporn has played an active role in working with the Ministry of Education to promote distance learning education via satellite in 15,000 schools all over Thailand. In addition, in 2011 she initiated a welfare program for army families with disabled children. It is a very successful program with a database covering over 700 children with disabilities and a continuing and sustainable welfare system. The program has later been adopted by other organisations.


For her valuable contributions to the Kingdom of Thailand, Associate Professor Naraporn has been awarded the Knight Grand Cordon (Special Class) of the Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand in 2004 and the Knight Grand Cordon (Special Class) of the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant in 2010.


Associate Professor Naraporn is married to General Prayut Chan-o-cha, the Prime Minister, and has twin daughters. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and surfing the Internet to update herself in her fields of interest and to learn about different cultures.
