For the 'Members Briefing' in July, AustCham Thailand is delighted to introduce you to Mr. Peter Baines OAM Chair, Founder and Managing Director of The Hands Group.

The Hands Group organises various activities to support the underprivileged in Thailand and allows participants – companies and individuals – to engage with communities they are helping beyond the funds donation. In his presentation, Peter will talk about:

  • How a properly constructed CSR program can be a profit centre for your business;
  • Why simply giving money is the least engaged form of support to charities;
  • Why you don’t need to be a big corporation to obtain the benefits from CSR.

Peter Baines - OAM is the Founder and Managing Director of The Hands Group, comprising a growing social enterprise and the hugely successful charity Hands Across the Water.  Peter was a forensic police officer for 22 years and his first trip to Thailand was in 2004, where he was deployed as the Australian and International leader of identification efforts following the Boxing Day Tsunami.  He led multiple rotations into Thailand and on the last occasion he met a group of children living in a tent all having lost their parents.  He then established the charity which has gone on to raise over $20m AUD without spending any donors money on administration or fundraising.  He spent his last 2 years employed by the police working on Counter Terrorism for Interpol in Lyon and also with UN Office of Drug and Crime for South East Asia.  He is now an international leadership speaker who travels the globe sharing stories of lessons learnt working in crisis and disaster.  When he is not doing that he is riding the length of breadth of Thailand on his bike leading teams on shared experiences and he is going to invite you to join him on an Australian Community Ride in 2018!
