Starting January 2024, a new guideline on taxation of foreign sourced income will go into effect in Thailand. Expatriates and Thais who are tax residents of Thailand will need to declare and pay taxes on foreign sourced income remitted into Thailand. Prior to this guideline, foreign sourced income is only taxable if such income is brought in the same calendar year which the income was earned. From 2024 onwards, such income is taxable irrespective of when it is remitted into Thailand.
This new guideline for taxing foreign sourced income will have significant repercussions for Thai tax residents who have domestic and foreign sourced income. In this session, we will discuss and share our thoughts and help you understand the implications of this new guideline. We will also explore how the tax collection is radically changing with the advent of Thailand’s implementation of the Common Reporting Standard (“CRS”) and automatic exchange of information amongst tax authorities in other countries.
