Cruising the Thai Islands from Phuket

Encounter perfect beaches and small village life in Southern Thailand

The spoils of Southern Thailand are no secret, but this 9-day tour proves there’s always more to discover. Escape on a nine-day Adventure Cruise that takes in some of the most spectacular little islands off Thailand’s west coast. Ko Phayam, Surin Tai and Khao Lak offer all the hallmarks of Thailand’s idyllic south – the warm blue-green Andaman Sea, blinding white sands and marvellous limestone oddities – without the glitz and bustle of mainland Phuket. Dine and share stories with locals in small villages, explore jungle and boulder-studded shorelines and swim and snorkel the afternoons away.

    Why you'll love this trip
    • On this cruise, the ocean is your swimming pool. The warm waters of the Andaman Sea are a dream to wake up to each day.

    • Meet the Moken people, a seafaring ethnic group of Austronesian origin who still mostly live a semi-nomadic hunter-gatherer life, despite Thai and Burmese attempts to assimilate them into wider culture.

    • Get unrivalled access to snorkelling spots around the Andaman islands from your comfortable small ship, perfect for accessing small coves and beaches.

    • Enjoy the laidback nightlife of Khao Lak. This area has not adopted the seedier side of Thai tourism, so it’s great chance to spend a night out without hassle.

    • Hear first-hand hear stories of survival and resilience in Baan Talay Nok Village, which was devastated by the 2004 tsunami.

Is this trip right for you?

    • This is a small ship Adventure Cruise, which means you’ll be sailing on a motorised yacht with 30–50 other people. The boat is spacious and comfortable, but this cruise focuses more on the destination than on-board activities. Instead of a pool, we have the sea itself. Instead of a casino, we’ve got board games and a good book. There’s also no formal dress code to worry about. Wi-Fi is available for a small charge.
    • Our ship moves under engine power, rather than sailing, so all cabins will experience light engine noise when the ship is moving (and occasionally when we drop anchor). It’s probably worth packing earplugs if you’re a light sleeper.

    • Most of our departures run in peak season when the seas are calmer. The ship will experience some roll and pitch in choppy conditions, however all of our ships come equipped with stabilisers to minimise movement. There will be seasickness tablets on board and your crew will do all they can to minimise any discomfort.

    • This trip is very much focused around marine activities so confidence in the water will allow you to make the most of the snorkelling opportunities. Flotation aids will be available on board as well as kayaks and stand-up paddleboards.

    • There are no lifts (elevators) on board our ships, so you’ll have to navigate a few steep flights of stairs (fitted with handrails) to access all the decks.

    $1,400US for AustCham members only!

    Departing on 20th December, 2019 and 10th January, 2020.

The Sukhothai Bangkok cordially invite you to attend and promote a fundraising charity event, “Bangkok Uncovered PLUS+” to support the social development projects of six endangered communities in Bangkok. For the third year of project celebration, The Sukhothai Bangkok and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) - Tourism Division, are planning to expand the scale of the event, which is why the project is now called “Bangkok Uncovered PLUS+”.

The project has derived from our creation of the APPEAR concept to preserve disappearing communities and culture, and to make them reappear again through sustainable tourism, partnering with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) - Tourism Division. The Sukhothai Bangkok has collaborated in this project in order to promote sustainable activities within six disappearing communities, whilst improving the livelihoods of the locals. The six endangered communities include - 1. Koh Sarn Chao 2. Bang Lamphu 3. Hua Takhe 4. Bang Kradi 5. Ban Bu and 6. Nang Loeng. This is the first collaboration of a public-private partnership to develop sustainable travel activities in Bangkok and to improve the livelihoods of local people in the communities, thus enabling them to ‘appear’ again.

Apart from those six communities, we also have another six joining us for the event, which are - 1) Talad Noi 2) Hala Market at Charoenkrung 103 3) Klong Ladmayom market 4) Taladname Song Klong, Taling Chan 5) Bangkok Dee Jung and 6). Talad Mod Ta Noi. Especially for this year, signature products from four regions of Thailand will also be available here!

In order to enlarge the scale of the event in terms of sustainability and community support, The Sukhothai Bangkok have positioned themselves to be a donation centre on the event dates. We cooperate with Baan Nok Kamin Foundation and Gift of Happiness Foundation (GoHF) having invited them to be a part of the project.

We would like to invite you and your audiences to come along to explore the hidden gems of Bangkok's old neighborhoods, to support community social projects, to experience the different traditions of twelve local communities and to participate in a range of fascinating cultural activities, many of which are slowly being forgotten and lost in time, including –

Rugby School Thailand’s Christmas Fair 2019

On Saturday 7th December Rugby School Thailand will host its inaugural Christmas Fair. Taking place under the shade of the school’s huge covered games area, it is set to be a day of festive fun for the whole family. Plus, all proceeds from the event will be donated to charity partner, Hand-to-Hand, which works with underprivileged children and their families in the Pattaya area.

You can shop your heart out to find perfect gifts at the Christmas Marketplace, where stalls will feature a hand-picked selection of vendors, with products ranging from hand-made jewelleryand bags, to organic beauty products, locally designed homewares and delicious tasty treats. There will be ice cream, cinnamon scrolls and gingerbread, to more hearty roast meals, English pies and Thai spring rolls (plus lots more) to fuel the fun.

The games area will have attractions for all ages; giant bouncers, a rainbow slide, bumper cars and a climbing wall, as well as a smaller games arcade that will challenge visitors to the likes of shooting rugby balls, with the chance to win prizes. The little ones can settle into the craft zone, and (if they’re good) have a photo with Father Christmas, who will be stopping in to say hello.

All this will be set to musical entertainment throughout the day, with Rugby School Thailand’s staff choir performing traditional Christmas carols, and a showcase of school talent.

For more information – or if you’re interested in vendor or sponsorship opportunities – visit www.rugbyschool.ac.th/christmasfair or email christmasfair@rugbyschool.ac.th
