South Australian Minister for Investment and Trade, Defence Industries and Veterans’ Affairs

Before entering Parliament, Martin spent 23 years in the Army, serving in the Special Air Service Regiment (SAS), commanding the 1st Commando Regiment, and serving as commanding officer of the Australian multi-national Peacekeepers in Egypt. Whilst undergoing officer training at the Royal Military College Duntroon he was a classmate of the Crown Prince and his later Army career included service in Thailand. After leaving the Army, Martin built up a property development and private child care centre business that employed 125 people across two states before entering the South Australian Parliament in 1997.

As a member of the Economic Development Sub Committee of Cabinet, Martin was part of the leadership team that laid out the economic priorities to drive South Australia’s continued economic development.
