Luncheon with the South Australian Minister for Investment and Trade

On the occasion of the visit by The Hon Martin Hamilton-Smith MP, Minister for Investment and Trade, South Australia, AustCham is honoured to offer members an exclusive opportunity to attend a boardroom luncheon with the Minister on Thursday 30 April 2015. The Minister will share his insights into the South Australian government’s renewed focus on accessing trade and investment opportunities in the South East Asian region and would like to hear from AustCham members about their experience in Thailand. Sector priorities for the South Australian Government include: agribusiness, food and beverage, education and high-value manufacturing.

About the Guest of Honour: Martin Hamilton-Smith is the

South Australian Minister for Investment and Trade, Defence Industries and Veterans’ Affairs

Before entering Parliament, Martin spent 23 years in the Army, serving in the Special Air Service Regiment (SAS), commanding the 1st Commando Regiment, and serving as commanding officer of the Australian multi-national Peacekeepers in Egypt. Whilst undergoing officer training at the Royal Military College Duntroon he was a classmate of the Crown Prince and his later Army career included service in Thailand. After leaving the Army, Martin built up a property development and private child care centre business that employed 125 people across two states before entering the South Australian Parliament in 1997.

In 2014, after 17 years affiliation, Martin resigned from the State Liberal Party to work with the successfully elected Weatherill Labor Government as an independent liberal member and Minister. As a member of the Economic Development Sub Committee of Cabinet, Martin was part of the leadership team that laid out the economic priorities to drive South Australia’s continued economic development. These priorities include leveraging off the global demand for South Australian produced premium food and wine and unlocking the full potential of South Australia’s energy and resource sector.
